(Mimi's more ladylike about it than I am.)

Thanks for the info. about the Montanist connection -- I was unaware of it.Saint Pathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00298965010639742246noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5839916.post-59027919743885121612007-02-17T19:42:00.000-05:002007-02-17T19:42:00.000-05:00Sorry, I seem to be ranting, but I agree with you,...Sorry, I seem to be ranting, but I agree with you, Pat, people en los estados unidos who claim to be persecuted have no idea what persecution is. The Christians of the first through fourth centuries knew persecution, as well as people thoughout the centuries. Christians were persecuted in the last century in El Salvador and Africa and Pakistan and in other countries, BUT NOT IN THE U.S.!!! I remember hearing that dips*** Pat Robertson claim that a group of Evangelical Christian youth who weren't allowed to pray around their school flag pole were being persecuted, and I thought, boy, if this idiot had read the story of Perpetua or the Martyrs of Lyon he would have a true understanding of persecution. But they don't. They think that not being allowed to force everyone into believing their way is persecution!!
SHEESH!!!
Here Ends the RantPadre Mickeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07580459577853346369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5839916.post-36228565243819440192007-02-17T19:16:00.000-05:002007-02-17T19:16:00.000-05:00Did you know that Perpetua was a Montanist? Two of the Montanists prophets were women, and they didn't practice sexism as far as their leaders were concerned, which made them suspect amongst those who were interested in declaring a male-bishop hierarchy in the Church. Tertullian investigated the Montanists and ended up joining their group, impressed by their faithfulness during martyrdom and their devotion to the Holy Spirit.

I was going to write about the Montanists for my M.A. thesis, but ended up writing on the Standards of the Book of Common Prayer. However, the Montanists are still an obsession, and I still may write about them.

Thanks for sharing Perpetua and Felicitas' stories. Their stories have been an inspiration to Christians for some 1800 years.Padre Mickeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07580459577853346369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5839916.post-52328074911241625722007-02-17T18:07:00.000-05:002007-02-17T18:07:00.000-05:00Pat, our minds were on a similar track - to show w...Pat, our minds were on a similar track - to show what a real martyr is. Some of the folks who call themselves martyrs today are laughable.June Butlerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01723016934182800437noreply@blogger.com
